If you’re up early in the morning, you’re going to need a good breakfast! 1. Railway Café
Railway Café is one of our favorite local breakfast spots in Athens, and we think that after you try some of their exceptional food for yourself it’ll be on your list of favorites as well! The owners, Justin and Deanne Boswell set out to create a truly genuine dining experience in a market dominated by chain restaurants, and they have definitely succeeded. When you go, enjoy fluffy omelets made with sun-dried tomatoes and farm-raised eggs.
2. Braum’s
Braum’s is famous all over Athens for its ice cream and milkshakes, but many people don’t realize that they also serve breakfast items from 6 to 10:30 every morning. Whether you like scrambled eggs, breakfast burritos, or pancakes, Braum’s has you covered! If you’re seriously hungry, try the Big Country Breakfast, complete with crispy hash browns, fluffy and flaky homemade biscuits, a hearty portion of sausage and gravy, and scrambled eggs.
3. Athens Café
Athens Café is the best place in town to get quality, authentic Tex-Mex cuisine, and that includes a truly Texan breakfast. The owners’ mission is to send no customer away unsatisfied, so be ready to loosen your belt by a few notches after your visit! Our favorite thing to get in the morning is their chicken fried steak and eggs, which is served with home fries, hash browns, grits, or biscuits.
4. The Cherry Laurel
The Cherry Laurel just exudes local flair. The tables, chairs, and decorations come from flea markets in Athens, and all of their recipes have been handed down generation after generation. The Cherry Laurel is run by Linda Ingram and Bonnie Wilson, and it has been in business for over twenty years. To survive that long in the restaurant business, they must be doing something right! When you go, make sure you try their fresh baked goods!
5. Callaway’s Coffee & Bistro
Sometimes, all you want in the morning is a simple, no-frills cup of hot, strong coffee and a filling bite to eat. When this is the mood you’re in, pay Callaway’s a visit, and they’ll take care of you. You can get coffee just the way you like it, as well as try one of their specialty breakfast sandwiches. You won’t regret it!
