If you want to have a few day trips around Athens, TX, you’ll be pleased to know that there are lots of great places to visit. Here are our top suggestions for a fun day out in the area.

Experience Rocky Ridge Drive-Thru Safari

You’ll get up close to the wildlife when you go on this safari! There are over 25 different species to spot as you drive through the 200-acre park, including zebras and emus. You’ll be given a bag of food before you set off, so you can feed the animals as you go. The road around the park can be rocky and steep in places, but your stylish Ford Bronco is perfect for that kind of terrain. You can finish the visit with a snack from the Safari Center, which also hosts the gift shop.

Visit New York Texas Zipline Adventures

Release your inner adventurer and fly through the treetops on a zipline! This adventure park is a short drive away and is set in beautiful surroundings. You’ll have the choice of two zipline tours, each taking over ninety minutes to complete and giving you incredible 30-foot views of the fantastic Texan countryside. You’ll receive full training by the experienced staff before your tour, and then you’ll be zipping from tree to tree, over 100 feet from the ground!

Appreciate Purtis Creek State Park

This state park has a 355-acre lake and is known for bass fishing, but there’s so much more to do here. There are several trails to hike or bike along, so you can opt for a 4-mile trek or go for a more leisurely walk along the dam. If you like the water, you’ll be able to swim, or you can hire a kayak from the self-service kiosk. Naturally, fishing is popular here, and all the equipment you need is available for hire at the park.

Enjoy Whatz-Up Fun Park

There’s something for everyone at this fun park! This amusement center combines a water park, a paintball park, and an arcade, so there’s a wide range of activities available, including go-karts and bumper cars, and miniature golf. The park has 60 acres, specifically dedicated to paintball, and the open sessions mean there’s no need to book.

The water park is safe for children, and you can hire a cabana for the day, which gives you some welcome shade on a hot day. When you’re ready for a rest, you can enjoy a pizza and a soft drink in the on-site restaurant, or you can bring a picnic and enjoy the sunshine.

So, these are our top recommendations for a great day out. Visit us at Brinson Ford Lincoln and let us know which place you enjoyed the most!
