Purtis Creek State Park
Purtis Creek State Park is one of the best parks in Texas. It is located on the Colorado River, and it has plenty of activities for everyone! There are two lakes, a campground, cabins, and so much more. We love going here because it’s so close to Athens, but far enough away that we get a whole weekend away from our busy lives. It’s also a great place to go if you want to fish or even just relax by the water.
There are plenty of trails throughout the park, so you can hike or ride your bike on them as well. The park also has lots of picnic areas, restrooms, playgrounds, and even an amphitheater where they hold shows during the summer months.
BSA Camp Meisenbach
This summer, you can take your kids on a camping adventure with BSA Camp Meisenbach. The camp is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country and has over 200 acres of lush green forest that’s perfect for exploring. The camp has everything from hiking trails to archery, fishing, and water sports. It’s also home to the largest swimming pool in the state!
Camping at BSA Meisenbach is a great way to get your kids outside and active while spending quality time with them. It’s also a fantastic way for families to connect with each other, as well as enjoy some much-needed relaxation. Whether you want to spend one night or all week at the camp, there are plenty of options available for you and your family to enjoy.
East Texas Arboretum
The East Texas Arboretum is one of those places where you can spend the day and enjoy nature without having to go far from Athens. This place is gorgeous and has a ton of different activities and things to do when it comes to nature.
If you’re looking for something that’s more active, then head over to Lake Athens Park. They have kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming at their lake. There’s also a playground for kids and a basketball court if you want to play some hoops with friends or family members.
