When you’re driving, you need to be able to control your speed. Good brakes give you the confidence that you can stop at any time. Brake components, like any other mechanical item, can wear out. As your Ford dealer, we can help you when you need brake repair. These are some of the signs that your brakes are due for repair.

Your Car Pulls When You Brake

If your car pulls to one side when your brake, this is a sign of a brake problem. When you step on the brakes, the braking system should stop your car almost immediately. The pulling sensation is due to a failure of the braking system on one side of your car. This failure causes your car to move towards the side with the working brake.

A blockage or an air bubble in a braking hose can cause this strange behavior. Pressurized brake fluid should force the brake caliper to engage and stop your wheel. A blockage in the brake hose will prevent the fluid from reaching the caliper and closing it. Your car will continue to move until the other three wheels stopping forces the fourth wheel to stop, too.

Leaking Brake Fluid

A brake fluid leak is dangerous for your car, as a lack of brake fluid reduces your braking power. As we’ve seen, pressure from the brake fluid forces the calipers against the rotors and brings them to a stop. If a leak develops, you’ll lose brake fluid, and the pressure in the system will also drop. This combination of problems will slow your braking response and could result in an accident.

Brake fluid can leak from many different places, including worn brake hoses, rusted brake lines, or a hole in the brake fluid reservoir. What makes a leak more difficult is brake fluid is pale yellow and not easy to distinguish. Usually, you’ll only notice the presence of a leak when your brakes become less responsive. Our technicians will speedily trace the leak and fix it.

Soft Brakes

When you step on the brakes and your foot almost touches the floor, you’ve got soft brakes. This weird sensation is caused by a lack of brake fluid. Brake fluid provides the resistance you feel when you step on the brakes. This resistance is important as you as your brakes have to be strong enough to stop the weight of your car from moving at speed.

Brake fluid isn’t consumed as your brakes work, so any lack of fluid must be due to a leak. We’ll find and fix the leak for you.
